The former MP was elected four times in the local riding of Shediac-Beaubassin-Cap-Pelé (previously called Shediac-Cap-Pelé). He was Minister of Health and Minister of Finance. As interim leader of the New Brunswick Liberal Party, he also served as leader of the official opposition in Fredericton.
