LEGISLATIVE – 5th constituency of Saône et Loire – Louis Margueritte withdraws…. – info-chalon.com

This is information from info-chalon.com that the outgoing MP Louis Margueritte has just made official through a press release.

A sign that things are also moving in Saône et Loire on the Macron side, the outgoing MP Louis Margueritte should make his withdrawal official. A decision taken while Gilles Platret, narrowly qualified for 4th place by a handful of votes, announced his retention in the 2nd round. Faced with the risk that the constituency falls into the hands of the extreme right, the outgoing MP seems to have responded to the injunctions of Matignon on all the Macronist candidates who came 3rd in the first round while he has been facing numerous requests to withdraw since Sunday evening… The decision should be made official in the morning according to information communicated to info-chalon.com

Laurent Guillaume

After consultations and discussions with all my local and national supporters throughout the day and again this morning, I have decided to withdraw my candidacy for the legislative election in the 5th constituency of Saône et Loire.

Given my positioning and the potential transfer of votes, I was surely the only one who could unite the Republican bloc in a broad gathering from the left to the right. The non-withdrawal of the candidate who came in 4th position is in this respect deadly.

Despite my attempts at dialogue with the diverse right candidate, nothing can make him listen to reason. He will now have to bear this responsibility for republican values.

In all conscience, it is my duty to do what is necessary to clarify the political landscape before you. On behalf of the 11,000 voters who have placed their trust in me and whom I sincerely thank, and whose diversity of opinion and aspirations I am also aware of, I am not giving any voting instructions for this second round, instructions whose scope is probably limited.

For two years I was a member of parliament who was present on the ground and in the chamber. I am proud of the projects we have carried out. I have only one wish: that the next member of parliament for the constituency can continue to carry them forward with as much commitment and satisfaction as I have had for two years.

There is only pride in serving one’s country.

And I will continue

Louis Marguerite
