SOLIDARITY: Large collection of telephones in Côte-d’Or on the occasion of the Tour de France cycling race

Ecosystem, Dijon metropolis, the city of Dijon, the Community of Communes of Terres d’Auxois, the cities of Semur-en-Auxois and Nuits-Saint-Georges are mobilizing young and old to collect the 46 million unused mobile phones lying dormant in the drawers.

Responsible partner of the Tour de France for the 5th consecutive year, Ecosystem is taking advantage of this event to organize an exceptional collection from residents and children. Thanks to donations from residents, Ecosystem, the eco-organization working to extend lifespan electrical equipment, will offer up to 300 reconditioned mobiles for the benefit of local associations, such as ADEFO, the social centers of Semur-en-Auxois and Nuits-Saint-Georges, which help people in great difficulty.

“The majority of stored phones are still functional, but whether they are broken, in working order, with or without value, of all generations, Ecosystem takes back all unused mobiles” explains Laura Chech, in charge of the operation at Ecosystem and insist “each donation will allow the eco-organization to recondition laptops to free of charge equip people who are isolated, looking for work or in great difficulty”.

A gesture of solidarity

Laura Chech : “Giving is a commitment to protecting the environment because some of the phones collected will be recycled, and some materials will be recovered to make new products. It is also a strong gesture for solidarity since we give up to 100 reconditioned phones to local associations chosen by the participating cities. And since our phones are reconditioned by our partner in the social and solidarity economy Atelier du bocage of the Emmaüs movement, it helps maintain jobs, particularly integration jobs.”

Schools in Dijon and Semur-en-Auxois made aware

“For the first time, we launched a competition between schools with the aim of raising awareness among the youngest. They have been collecting phones from their parents and teachers for several weeks. More than 200 students are involved at the Saint Joseph La Salle school in Semur-en-Auxois and around a hundred at the Jean Jaurès school in Dijon.”

Data protection

“This is a question that comes up often. When we collect the phones after having carried out the tests to check if the phone can be refurbished or if it will be recycled, we erase in all cases the personal data with certified erasure software. Donors have nothing to worry about. Nothing will come out of the phones.”

The caravan on the Tour de France in Côte-d’Or

“We have several devices on the Tour de France, like a caravan. You won’t be able to miss it, it’s a large planet followed by three tanks, one for each gesture to be adopted with electrical appliances, repair-donate-recycle. We also have official phone handover ceremonies as part of this major solidarity collection. In Côte-d’Or it will be in the village of Le Tour, at the start of the Nuits-Saint Georges and Semur en Auxois stage, and in Dijon on the finish line, on July 4, 5 and 6.
