The Bichette bar, a new meeting place leaning on the counter in Caen

After four months of renovation of the old Loki premisesJulien Duval, owner, and his friend Antoine, opened BichetteJune 19, 2024 in Caen (Calvados), rue Arcisse de Caumont.
Why? “Because the Bichette bar,” if we ask the origin of the name, “and because Antoine is a fan of Afida Turner,” adds Julien with a smile, in reference to the song “Barbichette” by the reality TV star.

A neighborhood bar

“We want it to be a counter barwhether vivant, with sharing, discussions, life. That people meet again. That’s why there’s space in front of the counter, to chat.”
To reach everyone, drinks with or without or little alcohol, classic or different products, such as smoked beer infused with wakameor saur beer. Local suppliers, too, like the Spore brewery or Coupe-Gorge. Savoury offerings from local traders will quickly complete the menu, all with average prices.

Four months of work needed

To have a place that resembles them, four months of work were necessary.

We had the opportunity to take over the Loki after a year of research, and we decided to redo everything. We opened it up to the street with the windows, we found beautiful furniture, which we combined with modern colors, while bringing back the Caen stone. It’s a beautiful renovation, which falls at the same time as the reopening of the Garsouille.

A travel story with many surprises

Originally from CaenJulien has traveled the world. From his travels, he has brought back souvenirs, crystallized in particular on the counter, but also inspirations, such as the toilets inspired by Canadian speakeasies.

We have hidden lots of things in the bar, which will gradually add up, because we like to laugh and constantly discover new things.

Julien and Antoine also want ” invite musicianstattoo artists, exhibitions, culture, we want lots of different things to happen.” In the future, theme evenings, or with other traders on the street, will also be organized.
