Between two legislative elections, we almost forget that the Olympic Games start in a few days in France. But, we will have a good booster shot on Friday July 5, 2024 with the passage of the Olympic flame in Rouen (Seine-Maritime).
Before the passage
And the organization of such an event, for which the prefecture of Seine-Maritime expects 50,000 peoplerequires a lot of preparation.
In detail, for the city of Rouen, here are the streets that the flame will take:
Cours Clémenceau – departure at 8:19 a.m. > rue Lafayette > rue d’Elbeuf > rue Marie-Duboccage > rue Pierre-Renaudel > rue du Cours > rue Ledru-Rollin > rue Desmousseaux > rue du Prieuré > rue Henri-II-Plantagenêt > avenue de Grammont > rue David-Ferrand > rue du Mail > rue Malouet > place Carnot > avenue Champlain > quai Jean-Moulin.
Then passage on the right bank by the Boieldieu bridgeThe route then continues through the historic city centre: rue Grand-Pont > place de la Cathédrale > rue du Gros-Horloge > rue Jeanne-d’Arc > rue Jean-Lecanuet. And arrival at place de l’hôtel de ville at 9:38 a.m.
The route plan
Vigilance, car parking will be prohibited from Tuesday, July 2 at 10 a.m. on all streets where the Olympic flame passes. “For residents of the left bank whose address is located on the flame’s route and who will be prohibited from parking from July 2 to 5, the City of Rouen is providing free parking 500 parking spaces in the car park from the Saint-Sever shopping center,” the city said.

During the event, in the streets mentioned above, traffic will be prohibited. And this between 7:15 and 10 a.m. You will have to take precautions to cross Rouen on Friday morning. Even more so for the inhabitants of Île Lacroix who will have to take a long detour to reach the rest of the commune.
A passage that costs the city €26,000
The cost of the expenses for the City is €26,225 on the torch relay. The various items of expenditure are: information for residents, overtime, allocations for volunteers, entertainment (fanfare and speaker on arrival on the forecourt of the Town Hall), signage, tickets for the Saint-Sever car park (to replace the removal of spaces along the route), security guards for the torchbearer centre.
For the public transportalso, vigilance will be required. The astuce network is reviewing all the diversions set up for buses. The TEOR lines, in particular, will bypass the hyper-center from the start of service until 10:30 a.m.as shown in the plan below.
And what about security?
“It’s a popular and festive event,” notes the prefect. Jean-Benoît Albertini. But for which the notion of security will be important. “You have to be able to face anything that can happen on the course,” he says.
Over the course of the day, for Seine-Maritime, no fewer than 1,700 people are involved “in security”. “It is impossible to have demands on the journey,” adds Clement Viveschief of staff of the prefect, who refers to the electoral context.
” For now [sur l’ensemble du parcours de la flamme]there was no major incident. But we could have children crossing, or people who want to take selfies with the torchbearer,” he adds.
