Third edition of the Pride march: around 500 people marched through the streets of Carcassonne

Saturday June 29, some 500 people gathered at Square André Chénier in Carcassonne as part of the third edition of the pride march. On the program: a parade along the boulevards of the city center accompanied by a train transporting people with reduced mobility as well as a DJ on a bicycle-chariot responsible for creating the atmosphere.

A few hours before, thunder was rumbling and torrential rain was falling on Carcassonne. But finally, this Saturday, June 29, a welcome ray of sunshine appeared in the middle of the afternoon to announce the start of the third edition of the Pride march. Organized by the Fiertés Carcassonne collective, the event saw some 500 people gather at the André Chénier square.

Shortly before the troops set off, Gaëtan, one of the founders of the non-profit organization, spoke about the behind-the-scenes of this new event: “The organization required a lot of energy and work. Discussions began in December for a date set in June. For six months we worked to raise the funds necessary to carry out the march. We always do so according to the funding raised”the pioneer member stressed. This year, a small train designed to transport people with reduced mobility as well as a bicycle-cart with a DJ in charge of providing atmosphere accompanied the participants.

As a reminder, this event stands out for its unique aspect when it comes to defending the rights of LGBTQIA+ people. “At least if we are talking about non-commercial purposes”, clarified Gaëtan, referring to the various businesses present in Aude. In his eyes, on the other hand, the convictions held do not have “not of considerable striking force” : “We must remain modest. Above all, the march ensures that, for a period of three hours a year, LGBTQIA+ people occupy public space. Tolerance is still not on the agenda at some. As soon as it overflows, it becomes a problem.”
