Africa lacks infrastructure, it’s true. But Senegal has transformed this challenge into opportunities to capture significant investments, if we rely on the words of the Director General of Apix, according to whom, “To promote investments, we needed infrastructure”.

In this sense, the Director General of the Agency for the Promotion of Investments and Major Works (Apix) highlighted projects like “the toll highway which was one of the first successful experiences in Building and Public Works”.

The construction of the Blaise Diagne International Airport (Aibd), the Regional Express Train (Ter) project which is today in the finalization phase at the Aibd and which will be extended, according to him, to Joal, in South-East of the Senegalese capital Dakar, constitute many investment opportunities.

Today, Apix in its configuration, intervenes in particular in the reform of the business environment, supporting the private sector in terms of coaching, information and studies, with private actors, the major reforms which improve the business climate, he claims.

Also, Mr. Bathily indicated that Apix is also developing Special Economic Zones (Zes). “Today we have three special economic zones in which we intend to develop everything that is investment linked to exports,” he declares, before adding that there are also Special Economic Zones and areas developed for investment oriented towards the local market.

From this point of view, he launched an invitation to investors to come to Senegal which according to him is a “land of success”.

Furthermore, with regard to human capital, the Director General of APIX stressed that Senegal “is doing very well”, because, he said, the country is today a reference in terms of training in medicine, pharmacy, etc.”

Furthermore, in the technological field, Senegal has multiplied “what we call technical and professional training centers or technical and professional sectoral institutes almost everywhere” with substantial investments.

He also stated that APIX wants to strengthen these efforts by signing an agreement with the Professional and Technical Training Financing Fund (3Fpt) to set up professional training centers in the Special Economic Zones.
