The next few days will be busy, Douai (North). While the Binbins festival and Gayant festivalsthe City will host a major event, the Tuesday July 2, 2024. The Olympic flame The Paris 2024 Olympic Games are coming to the city at 5 p.m. What you need to know to make the most of the event.

Route and timetables

Douai is one of the seven stages of the torch relay in the North. The departure will be at 4:56 p.m., from the Le Manège fencing hall, and will arrive at 5:36 p.m. on the Place d’Armes. “The route, less than 2 km long, will see 10 torchbearers succeed one another,” indicates the City.

It will cross the streets of Wetz, L’hôtel Dieu, Avenue des Potiers, Rue de l’Estanque, Quais Bertin, then Desbordes, Pont de la Massue, Rue de la Cloris, Place Suzanne Lanoy, the streets of the Town Hall, of Bellain, of the Canteleu, avenue Maréchal Leclerc, to arrive at Place d’Armes.

Sports activities from 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The afternoon will be lively in the city! There are associations available from 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., around the theme of sport, but not only that!

In the program :

  • Rowing demonstration by the Douais Water Sports Association, on the banks of the Scarpe, near the courthouse;
  • Flame Village, Place du Général de Gaulle, with local sports associations and towns labeled Terre de Jeux (Somain, Aniche and Arleux), with numerous demonstrations and activities (basketball, football, handball, boxing, badminton, BMX, break dance).

“The entire Gayant family will be present when the flame arrives at the Place d’Armes,” it is announced.

To close the day, Magic System will set the stage on fire from 6 p.m.

Transportation, parking and traffic

  • To get there by transport

Public transport will be free in Douaisis, announces the Department. Two special shuttles will be set up:

– from the Center Commercial de Flers-en-Escrebieux stop, a shuttle every 20 minutes from 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the direction of Douai. Lines 2 and 5 also take you to the city center;

– from the Center Commercial Porte de M. Gayant stop in Sin-le-Noble, a shuttle every 20 minutes from 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the direction of Douai. Lines 2 – 4 – 13 also take you to the city center.

These two special shuttles will only serve three specific stops:

– Place l’Heriller (temporary post on Boulevard Paul Hayez);

– Porte de Valenciennes (temporary post installed on Boulevard Faidherbe near the roundabout);

– Place Carnot (arrival) / Rue Escoffier (departure).

Returns from these three stops from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

For the proper organization of this event, restrictions of Traffic will be in effect on the big day, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The parking ones will be effective from Monday 1is July at 8 p.m. to Tuesday July 2 at 8 p.m.. Blocked streets, reverse direction, limited access… The City provides details in its online plan (which we provide to you below).
