Gilles d’Ettore, the resigned mayor of Agde, had been incarcerated since March 21 after being indicted for a case of corruption and embezzlement of public funds.

Gilles d’Ettore was released. For three months, the former mayor of Agde (Hérault) had been incarcerated after being indicted in a corruption case involving a “clairvoyant”. The investigating judges in charge of this case granted his request on Wednesday, releasing him under judicial supervision.

In prison since March 21, Gilles d’Ettore had already requested his release. Since then, his situation has changed. On May 31, he resigned from his functions as mayor of Agde and president of the Hérault Méditerranée urban community. He presented to the judges a housing solution outside the department, in order to avoid any consultation with other protagonists in the case.

A decision for the clairvoyant rendered on Friday

Gilles d’Ettore was indicted for “corruption”, “illegal taking of interests” and “embezzlement by a person holding public authority”. Justice suspects him of having used city money to provide benefits to a clairvoyant and her family. The latter used a well-rehearsed stratagem, calling her interlocutors by modifying her voice and pretending to be a supernatural being.

Sophia, the name of this local medium which had acquired a certain notoriety in the region, was also indicted. She also requested his release during a hearing on Wednesday. The Béziers public prosecutor’s office did not object. The decision will be made Friday June 28.

Investigations into this major affair continue. Other people, including local entrepreneurs and members of the clairvoyant’s family, were indicted. The investigation is expected to last several more months.
