Four days before the first round of the early legislative elections, France 3 Côte d’Azur is shaking up its programs and offering debates with the legislative candidates. Alliances, issues, perspectives, programs… A look back at the debate in Côte d’Azur on the 1st constituency of the Alpes-Maritimes: with Graig Monetti (REN), Olivier Salerno (NFP) and Virgile Vanier-Guérin (LR), but without Eric Ciotti.

The first constituency of Alpes-Maritimes includes different cantons of Nice. It is nicknamed “the district of the port of Nice”. It also includes Old Nice and goes as far as the Liserons district.

In 2022, Eric Ciotti, Les Républicains candidate, won the election, with 56.33%, against the candidate of the presidential majority, Graig Monetti.

In 2024, the situation is not quite the same. The outgoing MP, Eric Ciotti, allied himself with the National Rally. There is therefore no candidate from Jordan Bardella’s party in this constituency. A configuration which therefore greatly benefits Eric Ciotti since in 2022, the RN had a score of 13.30%. As a reminder, the former deputy for Alpes-Maritimes has held the 1st constituency since 2007.

The Les Républicains party did not leave the field open to the candidate since in front of him, they nominated Virgile Vanier-Guerin, a Riviera entrepreneur new to politics. As for the presidential party, Graig Monetti is running.

Henri Migout’s guests:

Outgoing MP Eric Ciotti did not accept the invitation. The candidate The Republicans supported by the National Rally did not wish to participate in this debate.

  • Graig Monetti:Renaissance – Horizons (REN)
  • Olivier Salerno :New Popular Front – La France Insoumise (NFP)
  • Virgile Vanier-Guérin:invested by Les Républicains (LR)

Graig Monetti, first held up a photo of Eric Ciotti: “I wanted to summon him for a few moments to show the shame he represents. Not to come talk about your problems, not to come with solutions. I hear the anger. If you want that to change, ask him to leave and to change MP The upcoming vote is decisive. present at the first round debate.”

“Avoiding debate is a democratic problem by definition” for Olivier Salerno. “Listening to Jordan Bardella and Eric Ciotti, there is too much confidence. They already see themselves there. The NFP must block racist and ultra-liberal ideas.”

For Virgile Varnier-Guerin (LR 06): “Eric Ciotti has the RN ashamed, he no longer feels at ease among us. At the MEDEF meeting, when he supports the RN program, he has no shame. He managed to unite us all under this shame. “

A candidate who also presented himself, because he was new on the political scene since the European elections: “Yes, it all started with an email from me. I had to be a candidate. I didn’t have the LR card before June 9. I had to take this civic action to give people who do not dare to get involved in politics the opportunity to do so.”

Goals ?

“We are in a decisive moment”, for Graig Monetti candidate of the presidential majority and Horizons. “For this election, we must choose the right spokesperson for the people of Nice in this constituency. A representation with dignity. I don’t understand how the implementation of the LFI program can begin.” His priority will be not to increase taxes and to “enhance all retirement pensions.”

Olivier Salerno explains who makes up the New Popular Front, “everyone works on the files. What I say to a center left or classic left voter. We have a balanced program. VSSome French people will pay more taxes. The richest 8% will pay more, we will also wage war on tax evasion and that is not economic patriotism. It’s fair. We will also restore the ISF, the wealth tax.”

“The LR vote is a responsible vote. My colleague Graig Monetti does not have a monopoly on responsible voting. On the budget, France needs a shock, a reduction in public spending,” according to candidate Virgile Varnier-Guerin.

Can it be? “It’s not my state of mind.”pour Graig Monetti “It’s also putting yourself in a position of defeat, to think about it now. I will take responsibility when the time comes.”

And between RN and the presidential majority, would you make a choice? For Olivier Salerno, “we are the second force. Second round and victory are possible. We must mobilize. Not a voice on the far right.”

For the LR candidate “the question does not arise. I cannot believe that I am not in the second round. There will be a postponement of the votes of the electorate loyal to the LR.”
