The port of the future will be a clean port, but how can we get there?

What is the objective of the APPB today in the environmental field?

The association was created in 1992, for 30 years we have been supporting marinas. We present them with our prospective studies on the evolution of the ecological transition and on the ports of tomorrow with their new uses. By improving the understanding of the effects of climate change and the port’s activity on its environment, we can help them to act and implement concrete actions.

In the Pays d’Auray territory, how many ports have already obtained Clean Port certification?

Brittany is the second region after the Paca region to have certified ports. For the moment, no port has certification in the Pays d’Auray but two have initiated a process and if all goes well, they should join the clean ports by the end of the year. These are Bono and Locmariaquer.

These two ports pool their audit request to be certified at the same time. For example, they share black water pumps. This action plan also includes exercises to learn how to use absorbent booms and anti-pollution kits. They also participated last summer in a treasure hunt on the theme of biodiversity with the Regional Natural Park.

Quiberon and La Trinité have made other choices with the RSE label.

Why is it urgent to act in this area today?

45% of port managers note a growing demand from their customers to implement environmental measures. Today we see the importance of having clean ports but also the motivation of boaters. 62% of structures are already working with local authorities on prevention actions but there is still much to do.

Out of 130 member ports, 23 are certified and we hope to register at least five more this year, or even reach 30 certified.

What elements can we act on?

We have several accessible levers of action. Ports are at the crossroads of several sectors. Ports that wish to get involved can choose to achieve energy sobriety, reduce carbon emissions, use circular materials, become more sober and preserve resources and water quality, become more involved in preserving the biodiversity.

What actions must be taken by ports that want to join the clean port approach?

They must first carry out a diagnosis before taking any action. Then they can act on different elements, not necessarily on all. All this has a cost and ports must have the will to invest.
