The former mayor of Agde was released this Wednesday, June 26, 2024. This is what the public prosecutor of Béziers has just announced in a press release: “the investigating magistrates ordered the release of the former mayor of Agde, taking into account in particular the resignation of all his elected mandates since May 31, 2024 and the presentation of an accommodation project far from the department..

Raphael Balland explains that he did not appeal this decision, even the latter had requested the rejection of this release. This information had been circulating judicially for several days but rumors suggested that it would not be before next September.

The former mayor of Agde is therefore placed under judicial supervision from this day, with numerous prohibitions and obligations, in particular the obligation to reside with a friend in Dordogne, and prohibitions on going to Hérault, leaving the national territory, and coming into contact in any way with a long list of persons designated by name, and in general with any person exercising elective mandates or functions of any nature whatsoever, at the town hall of Agde, in the Hérault Méditerranée agglomeration community and in the joint union of the territorial coherence plan for Béziers.

At the same time, on June 26, 2024, a hearing was held before the judge of freedoms and detention of the Béziers judicial court to decide whether the provisional detention of the “clairvoyant” should be extended. During this hearing, taking into account in particular the release of the former mayor of Agde and the presentation of accommodation projects, the public prosecutor requested the placement under judicial supervision of the “clairvoyant” at condition in particular of requiring him to reside far from the department. The detention freedoms judge will make his decision on Friday June 28, 2024.

The investigations of the interdepartmental judicial police service (SIPJ) of Montpellier are continuing under the authority of the investigating magistrates. They should take many more months.
