The Vannes ice rink could be the first in France to run on solar energy. The city of Vannes is working with a project manager and the equipment manager on two projects: the creation of a new 840 m² ice track, and the manufacture of ice using solar energy (photovoltaic cells ), coupled with the traditional electricity network. “It would be a first in France,” says David Robo, mayor of Vannes, a more ecological system which is part of the city’s environmental policy. The reopening of the ice rink to the public would then be postponed to the beginning of 2025, taking into account the additional delay imposed by the rehabilitation of the track.

While awaiting the conclusions of the project manager, the City and the manager of the ice rink have agreed on a financial agreement to compensate the latter until the end of the year on the basis of 50,000 € that the city will pay to SARL Patinium (€15,000 have already been paid), to cover insurance costs, accounting fees, telecommunications, rental and various maintenance costs, the manager’s remuneration, and fluids. The municipal council gave the green light to this memorandum of understanding on Monday June 24.
