Mthank you Luisa. The German pivot of Basket Landes Luisa Geiselsöder must have received some congratulations after her new big performance on the floor of the Espace François-Mitterrand against Chartres, in the Women's League, this Sunday (69-58). Despite a less successful performance than during their victories against Angers (81-65) and Salamanca (59-58) against a valiant promoted side, the Landeses, carried by their interior, went for a third success in a row in their den. They return to second place in this Women's League, tied with Bourges and Angers, beaten (64-73) by the now sole leader Charnay.
“If she receives the ball in the racket, it’s a basket or foul, if we leave her five or six meters away, she scores”
This Sunday, in a match where Basket Landes was generally below its usual standards, the blue and white club was able to count on a Luisa Geiselsöder who was up to the task, and much more. His statistics line was once again impressive: 21 points (9/13 shooting including 2/3 from distance), 10 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 block and 33 rating in 29 minutes. The German international signed her fourth double-double of the season in ten matches (after Bourges, Lyon and the Euroleague return match against Miskolc) and her seventh consecutive match with ten points or more. In the last three, she scored 18 points against Angers, 15 against Salamanca and, therefore, 21 against Chartres.
“She is solid”
Enough to command the admiration of Benoît Marty, the Chartres technician, whose players suffered the impact of the 24-year-old German: “She is having a huge season. She is a player who is both very strong physically and technically. I think she is one of the best interior players in the championship and one of the very good interior players in the Euroleague. She's hard to stop. If she receives the ball in the racket, it's a basket or foul, if we leave her five or six meters away, she scores. She carried her team. »

Her Landes counterpart Julie Barennes is less stingy with compliments, even if the latter obviously recognizes the contribution of the Bavarian. “She is solid, she performs well. It's nice because when we go to look for her, when we work with her, it's to have this kind of consistency, appreciates the coach of the blue and white club. And I think she has matured a little. There, she's in a good phase, that's very good. We have to continue to press on that. »
In the oven and in the mill
After the break, when she had already scored 11 points in the first half and the promoted Chartres had come back three short lengths (39-36, 25th), her return to the floor – coupled with that of another prominent international, Leïla Lacan (13 points) – allowed Basket Landes to regain a small lead and ensure a third success in a row for François-Mitterrand in a week.
“It’s thanks to my teammates,” assures the main interested party. I take their good passes, it's their good defense that allows me to get the rebounds. I'm really happy that they have confidence in me. I think I played well one-on-one but it's also thanks to the space they gave me. It's not just me. » In addition to being humble, the Landaises control tower also knows how to be altruistic, with five assists delivered. “She scores points but she makes five assists. So when it's closed, she is able to distribute, supports her coach. It's from this moment where you start to have difficulty defending. It is rather complete so it allows us to respond to several defenses. »
His contribution will not be too much this Wednesday (7:30 p.m.) against the Italians of Schio in the Euroleague, in a meeting which could allow Basket Landes to take first place in their group before the second phase. “We are strong at home. We want to win and be first, that’s for sure. » The tone is set, his determination no longer needs to be demonstrated.
Tribute to Kendra Chéry
Former Landes Basketball player Kendra Chéry was present in the stands this Sunday to witness the success against Chartres. After the meeting, to salute his four-season stint at the club (2019-2023) “which marked the club with his commitment and loyalty”, his portrait was displayed in the Landes “Hall of Fame”, in the grounds of the François-Mitterrand space. A gesture which moved the Guernica player (Spanish D1) to tears, acclaimed before then after the match by the 2,500 spectators in the room, who did not fail to thank the Landes managers and supporters.
