Two heat records were broken in the last hours in Quebec, both during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday and during the day on Wednesday, according to Environment Canada.

The temperature reached a low of 21.2 degrees Celsius on the night of June 19. We have to go back more than 70 years to have similar temperatures, where the mercury reached 19.4 degrees Celsius on June 19, 1953.

Wednesday afternoon, a second record was broken in Quebec, when the thermometer recorded a temperature of 33.4 degrees Celsius. The previous record for June 19 dated from 2020, with 33.2 Celsius.

Another record could be broken overnight from Wednesday to Thursday, when a minimum of 25 degrees Celsius is forecast. The record also dates back to 1953, when the night of June 20 recorded a minimum of 21.1 degrees Celsius.

Caution on construction sites

With this heat, the CNESST launches a call for vigilance on construction sites in the National Capital.

Heat stroke can be very serious, even fatal.warns Rébéca Gautron, spokesperson for the CNESST.

The organization recommends wearing light, pale clothing that respects protective equipment. Breaks should also be taken every hour in the shade or in air-conditioned places. Workers on construction sites must also limit their physical exertion.

Employers must be sensitive to the symptoms related to heat stroke, including muscle cramps, dizziness, vertigo, fatigue, confused or incoherent speech, as well as loss of balance.

The CNEEST also recommends drinking a glass of water every 20 minutes in order to be well hydrated.
