Cars, tents, vans and trucks are parked in a quarry in the Mayenne forest, in Saint-Georges-Buttavent, Saturday 1er June 2024 around 5 p.m. Around 150 people are scattered around the venue, where speakers have been set up for a free party. Participants continue to enter the quarry, by vehicle or on foot. From the top of the quarry, the sound of music is not audible.

One complaint for two offenses

Around ten gendarmes are positioned at the intersection of national 12 and departmental 538, to carry out checks. They were alerted by local residents on Saturday morning, while festival-goers arrived during the night from Friday to Saturday.

According to the gendarmerie, an investigation was opened following a complaint for two offenses: emitting noise that could harm the tranquility of the neighborhood and undeclared organization of a festive gathering of a musical nature.

Ban from the prefecture

The prefecture issued a decree on Thursday, May 30, to prohibit this type of gathering from Friday, May 31, from 12 p.m., to Monday, June 3, until 12 p.m.

Organizing such a gathering in violation of the ban is punishable by a fine of up to €1,500 (€3,000 in the event of a repeat offense). For participants, violation of the prohibitions set out in the decree is punishable by a fine of up to €150.

The free party is expected to last until Sunday afternoon.
