Météo France has placed the Yonne department on orange alert for thunderstorms, this Saturday, June 29, 2024 from 4 p.m. Hailstorms are possible.

The Yonne was placed on yellow alert for thunderstorms this Saturday, June 29, from 9 a.m., an alert level that will go up one notch from 4 p.m. The orange alert will be effective a minima until midnight.

Météo France specifies that “sometimes strong storms” are expected over a large part of the country, “the most violent affecting the north-east of the country”. Indeed, the north-eastern quarter of France is affected by this orange vigilance on Saturday June 29, as well as the Atlantic coast, from Landes to Vienne, earlier in the day. Most other French departments are on yellow alert.

Gusts, hail, rain

The people of Icaunais should expect “particularly violent” storms, specifies Météo France: they will be accompanied by violent gusts that could locally exceed 100 km/h, hail and heavy accumulations of rain, “before gradually clearing out through the north-east of Lorraine and Alsace after midnight”.

Rain, still locally stormy, could remain present until Sunday midday.

Why is harvest time particularly disrupted in Yonne?
