François Letexier will direct his third match during this Euro, Sunday in Cologne, with the Spain-Georgia meeting in the round of 16 of the tournament.

A Euro 8th final on the program for François Letexier. Already at the whistle during Croatia-Albania (2-2) and Denmark-Serbia (0-0) concerning the group stage of the competition, the French referee will experience a direct elimination match on Sunday evening in Cologne, although he was appointed by UEFA to officiate during Spain-Georgia (9 p.m.). Letexier will be accompanied by his team made up of Cyril Mugnier and Mehdi Rahmouni as assistant referees but also Jérôme Brisard who will assist him with the video. For this match, Serdar Gözübüyük (Netherlands) will officiate as fourth referee. Crowned best French referee for the second year in a row, Letexier discovered the Euro as a central referee during the tournament in Germany.

Indeed, he officiated during the 2021 edition, but only as a video assistant. As a reminder, he is one of the two central French referees to participate in this Euro 2024, with Clément Turpin. During the group stage, Spain impressed with a big success against Croatia to start (3-0) and two successes which completed a perfect group stage in accounting terms – success against Italy ( 1-0) then Albania (1-0). For its part, Georgia, for the first Euro in its history, has been able to write its history so far, by qualifying for the 8th finals after obtaining a place in the best thirds following its success against Portugal (2 -0). Beaten by Turkey for its entry into the running (3-1), the selection of Willy Sagnol was then held in check by the Czech Republic (1-1).

When appointing the referees for the tournament, UEFA’s chief refereeing officer Roberto Rosetti justified the body’s decisions.UEFA EURO 2024 is the pinnacle of European national team football with the best teams competing and that is why we have selected the best referees to officiate these matches. All referees chosen have consistently met the highest standards in UEFA’s biggest competitions, as well as in their domestic competitions. They have prepared exceptionally well for this position and we have full confidence in them to show their quality at the final stage,” he said.
