On the New Popular Front: “They don’t think much”
At the end of a two-week electoral marathon, during which the mayor of Le Havre (Seine-Maritime) and president of the Horizons party crossed “21 departments and 45 constituencies”, the discourse disqualifying the legitimacy of the extremists to govern seems well-established.Edouard Philippe alongside the Minister of Housing, Guillaume Kasbarian, and the mayor of Chartres, Jean-Pierre Gorges.
Opponents attacked with a steam hammer. The New Popular Front? “What are they proposing on defense issues, nuclear deterrence, alliances? Not a word on forty pages of program. Nothing. They don’t think the same thing, they don’t think much, they don’t say anything. “
On the RN: “I struggle to understand what they want”
For the RN, the same process of illegibility: “I struggle to understand what they want. And I’m not sure they know it. They wanted to get out of NATO, a pro-American machine which provoked Russia, which should never enter Ukraine, Madame Le Pen told us. And now, they no longer want to leave. We have increased defense budgets, we have built a more solid European center within NATO. I’m not saying it’s perfect but it’s serious and it’s moving forward.”
Aligned with Macron? “Not guaranteed”
The furrow of the “central space”. Action, credibility: these are the two mantras pounded on the ground by the VRP of a “central space which refuses to be stuck between LFI and the RN”. Not without freeing ourselves, with a certain sense of the formula, from any dependence on the one who embodies the republican arc: the head of state. “The idea that I’m toeing the President’s line is interesting but not entirely guaranteed.”
