He was on trial for three days for the murder of Wilfried B. The young man, aged 26 at the time of the murder, died of a stab wound on January 1, 2022, around 4 a.m. The accused has been in pre-trial detention at the Saint-Brieuc remand center since the events. Now aged 25, Askalane Maskati has been facing the Côtes-d’Armor Assize Court since Tuesday 25 and until Thursday 27 June, the date on which the jury is expected to deliver its deliberations.

The Assize Court will have to shed light on this New Year’s Eve evening which, according to initial testimonies, revolved around multiple hard drugs and alcohol consumed massively. A judicial investigation for complicity in murder was opened at the time against a third protagonist, at whose home the evening took place, but a dismissal of the case has since been pronounced and the young man will be heard as as a witness during the trial.

Thirty years in prison faced

The accused, born in Mayotte, is defended by Me Le Vacon; he risks 30 years in prison. At the other end of the courtroom, the victim’s mother and her brother, defended by Maître Baron, became civil parties. The girlfriend of the young man killed, who was present on the evening of the incident, has died since the incident.
