Since Saturday, the American Art Center in Casablanca has hosted the exhibition “The Gunpowder Game” (Tbourida) by American photographer Ricky Lavern Martin.

This exhibition, which continues until November 10, presents nearly 60 photographs taking the public on a unique journey to the heart of the life of Moussem and allowing them to discover behind the scenes of traditional tbourida shows.

Ricky Lavern Martin was able, through each image, to capture the intimate relationship between man and horse. It also highlighted the daily life of the riders as well as the fraternal bonds that form between the participants in the Moussems.

The idea for this exhibition came during a visit to one of the Tbourida Moussems, the American photographer told the press, noting that he discovered a new world there, different from what he imagined, because the images still focused only on the tbourida shows.

It is the fruit of two years of work and travel through several Moussems in different regions of Morocco, he said, stressing that he spent most of his time with the tbourida riders, “who were very kind and welcoming”capturing through his lens all the stages of their lives in the smallest details during the Moussems.

“I came to Morocco twenty years ago, and I have a close relationship and a great love for Morocco and Moroccans. Through this exhibition, I wanted to celebrate this exceptional relationship,” he added.
