5 years later Avengers : Endgamethe idea of a series putting an end to speculation about the fate of Captain America/Steve Rogers apparently hanging out at Marvel.
At the time ofAvengers : Endgame (even before Covid, we’re not getting any younger), Marvel was experiencing its golden age. The studio ravaged the box office with each release, and fans were most often won over by its new productions. 5 years later, in 2024, the situation has changed a lot (designed for Ant-Man 3 et The Marvels),, even if the MCU had a huge success with Deadpool & Wolverine.
The climax of the Infinity Saga ended with the death of Tony Stark and the passing of the torch from Steve Rogers, offering his legendary Star Shield to Sam Wilson. All after having repatriated the Infinity Stones to their point of origin. An astonishing element of the film, and which could justify a full-fledged project, according to this MCU actor.
A (another) Captain America series at Marvel?
Present on stage at a panel at the Edmonton Expo in Alberta, actor Ross Marquand revealed that he had proposed to Marvel Studios a series showing Steve Rogers’ ultimate quest. And if the actor’s name doesn’t mean anything to you, it’s not insignificant.
He has indeed played several roles in the MCU, such as that of Ultron in the animated series What if… ?but also, and above all, that of Red Skull in Avengers : Infinity War et Endgame. Played by Hugo Weaving in the first Captain Americathe villain reappeared under the guardian form of the Soul Stoneshowing the terrible path to take to get her back, to Thanos, then Hawkeye and Black Widow.
It is therefore not surprising that the actor proposed to the studio a project allowing him to resume his roleespecially alongside Chris Evans. That said, even if it seems impossible on paper, his idea puts forward this question left unanswered at the end of the film.
WITH CHRIS EVANS, REALLY?
As the Multiverse Saga draws to a close, could we finally get a glimpse of Steve Rogers’ final quest? Better yet, a confrontation with Red Skull, the man without whom he could have returned home at the end of the war (he was the big bad from the first film Captain America) ?
A series on Disney+ starring Chris Evans seems completely far-fetched, especially at a time when Marvel has officially decided to produce fewer series. But maybe there’s a way for Marvel to keep fans happy (and friend Ross Marquand).
Indeed, the return of Chris Evans in Deadpool & Wolverinefor a cameo as funny as it was unexpected as Johnny Storm from Fantastic 4, probably revived the hope of finding him in Avengers 5 et 6. After all, Robert Downey Jr. is back, in the shoes of Dr. Doom of course, but the idea is there. The MCU’s original Captain America could come out of retirement for one last lap, coming to the aid of his heir, Sam Wilson.
Better yet, with VAT in action, Marvel could reveal moments of its quest to repatriate the Infinity Stonesanswering a years-old question. A gimmick without a doubt, but we’ve seen bigger multiversal strings in the MCU lately.
