Varsågood and its sandwiches which do the greatest good at lunchtime in Caen

Every week, focus on one good address in Caen (Calvados), to eat while having fun. Heading for northern Europe, with Varsågooda restaurant located in the city center and which welcomed its first customers in February 2024.

Scandinavia. This restaurant, which opened in February in Caen, is a gateway to the Scandinavian culinary world. The boss, Lydia Vitic, echoes her Swedish origins through this project. The decor of the place meets several Scandinavian standards in this area.

Toasts or smørrebrød. Lunch is the house specialty. Varsågood offers superbly presented sandwiches, pyramid-shaped and very generous. Several recipes are on display, such as chicken with garlic cream cheese, fine herbs and oven-roasted peppers with red onions. Change of scenery with Normandie, and its creamy Pont-L-Évêque which goes perfectly with pieces of baked candied apples and hazelnuts. During our visit, The Frikadeller Meatballs won many votes: pan-fried butternut squash with cumin, peanut and almond pesto and Beef balls. All accompanied by different herbs. At lunchtime, and it feels good at the moment, soups are also offered.

Coffee. The wide opening hours of the address allow you to go for tea or coffee in the morning or afternoon. The house’s pastries will delight those who want to enjoy a good snack in the city center. THE princessstarta is to be discovered in particular. This is a traditional Swedish cake made with sponge cake, raspberry jam, vanilla custard and whipped cream. All coated with almond paste. THE cinnamon roll is a nice alternative.

The price range. It costs €14.50 for a sandwich, a dessert and a soup.
