The municipal team has lost one of its pillars. Deputy mayor, delegate for culture, Valérie Devaud, 58, died of illness. Just a few weeks ago, she was on the go, organizing the May 8 commemorations, the September Arts Festival, a show for the media library and the continuation of the Arts Trail project which was particularly close to her heart. . The illness took over.

There remains the imprint she left wherever she went. A Nieulais at heart, originally from neighboring Charente, Valérie Devaud arrived in Nieul in the early 2000s. “She really liked it here,” say Salomé and Margot, her two daughters aged 23 and 24. She loved the proximity of the sea and the surrounding nature. This living environment suited him perfectly. » She raised her two daughters there, always passing on to them a taste for beautiful things, for the dance that she loved so much, and for the culture of which she defended a popular and eclectic vision. “She made us aware of art very early on. She taught us everything,” her daughters continue.

Over twenty years, Valérie Devaud had built a network of strong friendships that strengthened her attachment to the area. “She was curious, full of humor, open to others, caring and very loyal in friendship,” emphasizes Cécile, a close friend. Humanist and committed, she had chosen to retrain at a professional level, even going so far as to resume her studies, to work in social work. It was quite natural that she then decided to get involved in local politics. Enthusiastic and willing, she had been “approached” by Marc Maigné’s team in 2020 and had joined the culture and community life committee, of which she had become the deputy in 2022. “She was always wholehearted and very involved in the projects,” emphasizes Marc Maigné, the mayor of the town. We will remember her audacity, her desire to move forward and propose new things.”

The funeral will take place Tuesday July 2 at 3:30 p.m. in La Rochelle.
