Montbrun-Lauragais. Live Challenge: two months of summer in music

The Montbrun-Lauragais market takes place every Thursday of the year, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Every week there are organic producers and farmers, bread baked in the communal bakery, the refreshment bar with its ice creams, crepes and craft drinks. During the two summer months, it expands with new gastronomic offerings, guided tours of the windmill (from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.) and musical entertainment.

On the music side, it is the famous “Live Challenge” – a festival which aims both to create an event for visitors to the market and to allow music groups to perform on stage – which enlivens the evenings of the Montbrun summer. Organized by the Foyer rural in the form of a competition, it is open to all artists who can present at least seven compositions. The key for musicians is, in addition to the opportunity to express and compare their talent, there is the possibility of winning one of the three prizes at stake, worth €800, €500, or €300.

For this 13th season, seven groups will perform on the market stage, from July 4 to August 22, from 7 p.m. They are, in chronological order: Boogie Boolga (blues, rock) on July 4, The Fabulous Awkward Boys (folk, rock) on July 11, Basil (pop rock) on July 18, Baraka Groove (ska, reggae) on July 25, Ella Laïrone (pop) on August 1, Gaïa Dub (dub and electro) on August 8 and The Initiativ (indie rock) on August 22. The public present each week will rate the musicians of the day and thus select the three finalists, who will be invited to perform again, on Saturday August 31, 45 minutes of their own compositions, on a large stage set up for this grand finale. And it is the public which, once again, will play the grand juries, with a single and final vote: the ranking of the three groups in order of preference!
