This is a proposal that has not gone down very well. During its campaign for the legislative elections, the National Rally assured that it wanted to “prevent” people with dual nationality from accessing certain positions, potentially the most sensitive. A measure that shocks the millions of people with dual nationality in France.

And it’s not just anonymous people who can have this dual nationality. Many stars also share their French nationality with that of another country. A source of pride for many of them.

Animators acclaimed by the French

Notably Nikos Aliagas. The presenter of the Star Academy and of The Voice has never hidden his dual French-Greek nationality. He has dedicated several photo exhibitions to his home country. Nikos Aliagas was even chosen to present the Olympic flame lighting ceremony for the Paris Games a few weeks ago. In his childhood town, he was also able to run a few meters with the Olympic flame.

On the TV side, another presenter is also proud of his dual nationality: Stéphane Bern. The public service presenter is in fact Franco-Luxembourgish. He even dedicated a work to his other country of origin, “My Luxembourg”, where he reveals all his secrets. Stéphane Bern has already been received by the Grand Duke of Luxembourg.

Another star, appreciated worldwide but especially by the French, is also proud of his dual nationality: footballer Zinédine Zidane. Of Franco-Algerian nationality, the winner of the 98 World Cup has Algerian origins that he holds from both his parents. A real attachment that even earned him a great offer a few months ago: that of coaching the Algerian national football team. Unfortunately for the Algerian players, Zinédine Zidane declined.

Singers with dual nationality are adored

Mylène Farmer is more discreet about her dual nationality. Some may not know it, but the singer is French-Canadian. Born in Montreal to a father from Marseille and a mother from Brittany, Mylène Farmer lived in Quebec for ten years before landing in Paris. However, she admitted a few years ago that she was “much more French at heart than Canadian. »

One of our biggest international stars also has dual nationality: Aya Nakamura. The most listened to French singer in the world is also Malian. Originally from Bamako, the candidate for the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games has a strong attachment to Mali.

She also regularly helps orphanages in the country, and has also given concerts there, not without apprehension. “I have more pressure for Mali than for other countries”she admitted in an interview in 2023. To also highlight Mali, Aya Nakamura dedicated a song to Oumou Sangaré, one of the greatest Malian singers.

The list of celebrities with dual nationality is ultimately as long as an arm. Jamel Debbouze (French-Moroccan), Charles Aznavour (French-Armenian), Carla Bruni (French-Italian) and Tony Parker (French-American), to name but a few. Personalities with immense careers, who prove that dual nationality is anything but a selection criterion.
