Apparently something new is happening in the mobile phone market. Until recently, acquiring a second-hand smartphone seemed like heresy for many consumers, who want the latest model, with a battery in perfect condition, a shell without the slightest scratch and, of course, take advantage of the latest technologies. A few days ago, Digitec Galaxus claimed that sales of refurbished smartphones were increasing significantly. A trend confirmed by one of the biggest players in this market, Recommerce.

Digitec Galaxus claims that over the last twelve months, its customers have purchased 43% more refurbished smartphones than during the same period of the previous year. Demand from January to April 2024 was even twice that of the same period in 2023, says the country’s leading online sales site. According to one of the managers of Digitec Galaxus, the reputation of refurbished devices has improved, particularly in relation to their durability. On the other hand, prices are also a driving force for purchasing.
