The Ukrainian president wants to intensify sanctions against military officials and civil servants who do not fulfill their duties while Russia increases offensives in the east of the country.

During a recent visit to a regiment stationed in the Donetsk region, Volodymyr Zelensky met with local representatives to discuss key issues such as water supply, social concerns, evacuation plans and reconstruction of buildings destroyed by bombing.

Back in Kyiv, the Ukrainian leader stressed that some officials have not been present in key areas for more than six months, which could have significant consequences for the defense of the front line.

The announcement comes two days after the dismissal of a senior army official, who was accused by another commander of incompetence and abuse of power. The Ukrainian army has been struggling since the failure of its counter-offensive in the summer of 2023, with Russian troops seizing new villages in the east and south of the country every week but without making any real breakthroughs.

Over the past 24 hours, Russian bombardments have targeted nearly 20 villages around the town of Selydove, in the east of the country.

Western military aid begins to reach Ukrainian forces.

The United States is expected to announce an additional $150 million in munitions support.
