CULTURE – A look that still causes a sensation 35 years later. Actress Ayo Edebiri arrived on the Golden Globes red carpet this Sunday, January 5, with an oversized gray suit inspired by the one worn by Julia Roberts at the same ceremony in 1990. She was unanimously acclaimed.

The actress who is best known for her role in The Bear was present again to represent the nominated series in five categories. Ayo Edebiri was herself nominated for best actress in a comedy or musical series, but it was Jean Smart who won the statuette for her role in Hacks.
In Vogue, Ayo Edebiri explains where his idea came from. “I was looking forward to collaborating with Jonathan Anderson and the Loewe team on this look, and also with my stylist Danielle Goldberg.” Jonathan Anderson is the creative director at Loewe. “I was inspired by the costumes [que Jonathan Anderson] imagined for the film Queer by Luca Guadagnino, I liked the idea of playing with men’s clothing”, she detailed.

And to add: “Danielle and I remembered Julia Roberts’ gray suit at the 1990 Golden Globes.” A reference all the more symbolic as the two stars will both play in Luca Guadagnino’s next film expected in 2026 and entitled After the Hunt.
