A fire broke out in a building in the Beauport district of Quebec on Sunday afternoon, causing major damage to one of the homes.
Around 1:30 p.m., firefighters from the Quebec City Fire Protection Service (SPCIQ) went to 3518, rue Saint-Victorien after calls to 911 concerning a fire on a three-story residential building with six dwellings, can we read in a press release.
The SPCIQ quickly confirmed the presence of smoke escaping from the drum at the rear of the building. The flames were mainly at the level of the second floor of the drum.
Approximately 35 firefighters were on scene to fight the fire and evacuate residents. “No person was injured during the intervention,” said the press release from the Quebec City Police Service (SPVQ).
The damage was observed in a portion of the common area and in a dwelling which cannot be reinstated.
The fire station’s investigation showed that a smoking article was the cause of the fire.
The SPVQ wishes to clarify the importance of smoke alarms in homes to ensure safety. In the case of this fire, several alarms were non-functional.
