Marc Thiercelin is embarking on a crazy project for the 2028 Vendée Globe

What made you decide to take the adventure?
Wood has always appealed to me, I am someone who has a background in wood (learning cabinetmaking and marquetry at the Boulle school in Paris). I let it all mature. And all of a sudden, last spring, I said to myself, that's the idea: to return to a boat made of wood, bamboo and natural fiber, on the Vendée, a race in which I have legitimacy . It’s a technological challenge. Since May, I've been digging the ground, studying the costs (5 million euros)feasibility, risks, uncertainties. Everything is a gamble in life, this could be my last big project, I want to succeed.
