Season 2 of Squid Game on Netflix is an opportunity to discover many new games, some easier than others. Hwang Dong-hyeok, the creator of the series, admits to testing them all himself.
If, for season 2 of Squid Gamefans were delighted to find Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) and to know how he was going to manage to re-enter the game in order to better destroy it from the inside, they were especially impatient to find the multicolored arena and its red guards. And for good reason, after three years of waiting, this season 2 promised to be spectacular. And while many new players have been introduced to the public, the games have also been renewed. If in episode 3, the first part is similar to season 1 since it is a “One, Two, Three, Sun”, the following rounds are new but continue, as in the first salvo, of refer to games played by South Korean children. Thus, we find the famous carousel loved by children all over the world, and many others, more specific.
Squid Game season 2: Hwang Dong-hyeok tested the games before forcing the actors to do them
There is no reason why only the actors in the series should struggle. The second game to which the players are subjected takes place in teams of five: in five minutes, attached to each other by the feet, they must succeed in five schoolyard games. But some games require crazy agility which is not given to everyone. Questioned by the American media DeadlineHwang Dong-hyeok admitted that he put himself through the games before filming: “Of course. I always train to gauge how enjoyable the challenge is. I’m good at spinning tops, but not at Jegichagi. I was worried that the actors would play it very poorly during filming, but JJ (Lee Jung-Jae, editor’s note) did a very good job. He was good at Jegi, but timing is really important and difficult to achieve. None of the actors succeeded, but JJ eventually managed to get the jegi to float in the frame. We were worried about having to use special effects because no one could get him to fly properly, but he did a perfect job.“
Squid Game season 2: the actor who plays In-ho reveals if he missed the spinning top on purpose during the second game
One of the key moments of this episode is obviously when the team of Gi-hun and In-ho, his enemy whom he did not recognize without his black mask, must in turn take part in this race to six legs. And if the first three tests go wonderfully, the tension rises when In-ho (Lee Byung-hun) fails to thread the thread around the spinning top and then sends it flying haphazardly. It’s difficult when watching to know if he’s doing it on purpose or if he’s really bad. The actor spoke behind the scenes of this scene: “It was the first time I really embraced my fake identity, and I thought a lot about whether I should have fun during the games or if I should be nervous. It was very important for me to find that balance . I talked to the director about it and we came to an agreement. […] Hwang told me that it was really funny to see In-ho purposely not doing well with the spinning top, because it really builds up the tension and suspense.“
