All that remained of this house was a pile of debris. On the night of November 26 to 27, in Saint-Loup-de-Naud, near Provins (Seine-et-Marne), the explosion of a 100 m² house caused the death of a 31-year-old woman. , whose body was found in the rubble. Her partner was seriously injured. “I can still hear the noise in my ears, the light from the firefighters, the smell, too”remembers a resident of this village of 900 inhabitants.

A previous disturbing explosion

But it was not the first detonation to shake the village. Seven years ago, the former owner of the house died alongside his grandson in a car explosion. The investigation was closed this summer, and no answers have been provided in this mysterious case. Since the explosion last November, questions have been piling up.

Was it caused by forgotten 14-18 shells? Could bags of fertilizer have accidentally exploded? Investigators also explored the possibility of a neighborhood quarrel, but the suggestion turned out to be false. According to the public prosecutor of , Jean-Michel Bourlès, the hypothesis of the presence of explosives which would have been stored in the house by its former owner had been favored.

Unease intensifies in the village

Now, psychosis sets in. “When we walk in the street, people ask us questions, look at us, ask us: ‘What are you doing outside my house?’ […]people are a little on edge”confides a local resident, who admits to having already thought about leaving the village. The deputy mayor (SE) of Saint-Loup-de-Naud, Patrick Micheletto, fears to see a wave of departures.
