PORTLAND — The Edward Little girls Basketball team put together an impressive away performance, notching its second significant victory of the week with a thrilling 45-40 victory over the defending class state champions AA, Cheverus, Thursday evening.
Leading this victory for the Red Eddies, Rachel Penney was on fire, scoring four three-pointers and finishing the game with 16 points. Layla Facchiano also shined, contributing 13 points to the team’s total. The triumph improves Edward Little’s record to 5-3, following their earlier victory against Bangor, where they emerged victorious with a score of 50-44 on Monday.
For the Stags (5-2), Addison Jordan led the attack with 17 points, while Kylie Lamson provided support with 12 points. Unfortunately for Cheverus, this loss marks their second straight loss, having also fallen to Scarborough earlier in the week, 47-44.

BANGOR 40, OXFORD HILLS 39 : In another thrilling encounter, the Rams edged out a disciplined Oxford Hills team, highlighting a balanced scoring effort led by Avery Clark with 13 points. Despite a tense final minute filled with opportunities for the Vikings, Bangor managed to preserve this crucial victory in Class AA North.
Dalaney Horr added 12 points and Ayzlynn Gifford chipped in with nine for the Rams, who improved to 5-2. Ella Pelletier was the star for Oxford Hills, scoring an impressive 25 points.
POLAND 61, NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 43 : Sophomore sensation Charlotte Grenier dazzled fans with eight three-pointers, tallying a game-high 30 points as the Knights continued their undefeated streak (6-0), outscoring the Panthers (3-4 ). Phoebe Paradis paced with 13 points, while Payton Rose chipped in with eight.

North Yarmouth Academy’s Athena Gee was also in great form, hitting seven three-pointers for a total of 21 points, while Ella Giguere added 14.
BASKETBALL GARÇONS :
BREWER 35, MT. BLUE 32 : In a well-contested defensive battle, the Witches (9-0) remained undefeated against the Cougars (5-3). Brewer managed to hold Mt. Blue to just seven points in the second half, with both teams struggling offensively in the final quarter.
Owen Fullerton accounted for all of Brewer’s three-pointers in the fourth quarter and was among the team’s leading scorers with nine points, matched by Steven Youngs.
On the other side, Carter Norton shined for Mt. Blue, scoring 13 points with three made three-pointers.
BUCKFIELD 88, RANGELEY 44 : Brayden Monto had an outstanding performance with 23 points, leading Buckfield (3-5) to an emphatic victory against the Lakers (1-6). Trenton Haskell and Nolan Litchfield also made notable contributions, adding 13 and 12 points, respectively.

Sam Morrill and Keegan O’Neil were the top scorers for Rangeley, both finishing with 11 points.
POLAND 66, NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 25 : The Knights crushed the Panthers with a dominant performance, highlighted by Damon Martin’s 16 points. Nick Jamo added 10 points to the board, as the Knights improved to 4-2, while NYA struggled to score, with Brayden Kloza managing just 13 points.
OXFORD HILLS 66, BANGOR 64 : A thrilling finish saw Brayden Murch score 11 of his 26 points in the final quarter, leading Oxford Hills (5-4) to a hard-earned victory over Bangor (1-7). Cameron Pulkkinen contributed 10 points to the Vikings’ success.
For the Rams, Josh Grunkemeyer led with 21 points, supported by Nate Grunkemeyer and Harry Fitzpatrick, who totaled 14 and 13 points, respectively.

BOYS HOCKEY
BANGOR/NARRAGUAGUS 6, EDWARD LITTLE 2 : A powerful performance from Marc-Andre Perron, who scored twice and provided two assists, led the Rams (2-3) to victory over the Red Eddies (1-4) at Norway Savings Bank Arena. Chase Caron also contributed with two goals and an assist.
Edward Little’s Andrew Clements was able to score both of his team’s goals, while goalkeeper Caden Westhoven made 13 saves.
GIRLS’ HOCKEY
BREWER/BANGOR/HAMPDEN/HERMON/JOHN BAPST/OLD TOWN/ORONO 7, ST. DOMINIC 0 : The Pioneers (4-3-2) delivered an impressive shutout against St. Dominic (1-6), highlighting Jordin Williams’ hat-trick and two assists. Ella Davis also had a remarkable performance with two goals and three assists.

Pioneers goalkeeper Mariah Coon was perfect, stopping all 10 shots she faced, while St. Dom goalkeeper Alana Wheeler made an impressive 44 saves.
FALMOUTH/SCARBOROUGH 2, GREELY/GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 1 : Maya Fongemie and Lexie Bellerose each scored a goal and provided an assist for Falmouth/Scarborough, edging the Rangers (0-9). Avery Larson assisted on both goals, while Greely/Gray-New Gloucester’s Jane Flynn found the net once, with goalkeeper Charley Louie making 51 saves.
