It has become an unmissable event on the Albigensian calendar. The 6th edition of Albi jazz festival will take place from January 29 to February 1.
There will be four major evenings at the Scène nationale. Eve Risser and Alexandra Grimal will have the difficult task of opening the ball, around “an original repertoire in homage to two figures of 20th century music: Carla Bley and Charlie Haden”. Saxophonist and singer Oan Kim and his Dirty Jazz Band will follow. A mix of jazz, classical and contemporary music, but also rock.
The next day, it’s time for Hugues Mayot, saxophonist and composer. He will present his musical project “L’Arbre Rouge” where “the compositions are rooted in the classic sounds of a chamber orchestra”. Behind, the African Jazz Roots quintet will make us rediscover the African influences of jazz.
On January 31, we will be able to attend the show by Marion Muzac, choreographer and dancer, and the musicians Sables noirs. Then Louis Sclavis Quintet and the Incandescent orchestra will close the evening. They will give jazz Asian and baroque notes.
Finally, Saturday February 1 features the repertoire of the quartet of the saxophonist, Géraldine Laurent, and the authentic blues of the American multi-instrumentalist Jontavious Willis.
And as the festival would lose its soul without him, we will find the Magic Mirror. On the program: the Bretch duo of Sara Brault and Ludovic Schmidt, the Nout trio, Léa Cuny-Bret, Emmanuel Scarpa, the Bedmakers quartet, students from the Conservatory’s jazz classes, etc.
