It’s a battle between SOS et Christmas this week on the Canadian Billboard charts.

The new deluxe edition of SZA’s award-winning 2022 album propelled SOS topped the Billboard 200 in the United States. But in Canada, Christmas by Michael Bublé continues to reign at the top of the Billboard Canadian Albums chart, while SOS rises to 2nd position.

SOS Deluxe: Lana features 15 new SZA tracks, 10 of which also appeared on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100 this week, although they’re all in the bottom half of the chart. The relaxed song 30 For 30 — in collaboration with Kendrick Lamar, SZA’s current favorite collaborator — had the best debut at #64. (Canadians will be able to hear this song live during Lamar and SZA’s June performances at the Rogers Center in Toronto.)

“Christmas” – the holiday, not the Bublé album – continues to dominate the Canadian Hot 100, with Mariah Carey and Brenda Lee occupying the top three positions. Bublé’s “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas” moves from 10th to 7th place, and “Holly Jolly Christmas” climbs from 17th to 12th place.

Several Christmas songs enter the rankings this week. The frenetic song “Carol of the Bells” by John Williams, which appears in the film Home Alonecame in at #47, while the film’s soundtrack debuted on the Canadian albums chart at #71.

Bublé’s latest Christmas song, “Maybe This Christmas”, entered the Canadian Hot 100 at #79. Collaborating with American country singer Carly Pearce and written by Jann Arden, this waltz ballad tells a story of regret and loneliness. (Not to be confused with the song “Maybe This Christmas” by Canadian singer-songwriter Ron Sexsmith, a beautiful holiday song.)

British Columbia singer Tyler Shaw also has a new Christmas entry this week with the catchy track “What Christmas Means To Me.” The song comes from the recent physical release of his album A Tyler Shaw Christmas of 2021, nominated for a Juno. She has a lively, happy energy that clearly evokes the holiday spirit.

The holidays are now behind us, and we’ll start to see these Christmas songs drop in the charts next week, giving way to new contenders to start the year. Will SZA dominate early 2025? Will Rosé benefit from a post-Christmas revival? Here’s to the coming year!
