The record that Federer continues to hold season after season

Roger Federer said goodbye to professional tennis more than two years ago, but the mark he left on tennis history continues to be present.

While Jannik Sinner had an impressive year in 2024, accumulating titles (8 on the ATP circuit, 9 including the Davis Cup), the Italian did not manage to get closer to a 28-year-old record.

This is the record for titles in a single season: twelve tournaments won by Thomas Muster in 1996 and Roger Federer in 2006.

Here we must take into account this record in relation to the calendar which is similar to today. Several legends actually exceeded this number of titles in a season in the 70s and 80s, but with a completely different schedule.

While Nadal and Djokovic also had impressive seasons (11 titles each in 2005 and 2015), they were never able to match or surpass that mark.

And in today's tennis where players choose to pay attention to their schedule and experience slumps from time to time, it is difficult to imagine Sinner or Alcaraz (to name just a few) winning so many titles on a same year.
