Good news for households. According to a decree, published this Saturday, December 28, the regulated electricity price should fall by 14% for individuals. This reduction is expected on February 1, 2025. The tariff shield will end, but without the tax increase (excise) initially planned by the government.
“The tax increases provided for in the initial finance bill do not come into force” and “the drop in electricity prices should be, as announced by the Prime Minister on November 28, 14% in 2025“, explained the entourage of Minister of Industry Marc Ferracci to Agence France-Presse.
The initial budget proposal, unveiled by Michel Barnier, included an increase in this tax in order to obtain 3.4 billion euros to try to fill the public deficit. In this case, household bills would have only fallen by 9%. At the end of November, Michel Barnier finally indicated that he would not increase the tax on electricity.
This decree, published this Saturday, “concerns the end of the tariff shield which had been put in place following the sharp increases linked to tensions on the electricity market in 2022 and 2023”.
