US President Joe Biden will “discuss the future of his campaign with his family”, according to US media.

The fiasco of the debate between Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump on Thursday evening caused concern among Democratic leaders. The American President, vague, hesitant, sometimes seeming absent, had provoked the worst doubts about his ability to lead the country for an additional term, or even to lead the Democrats to victory against a candidate who was nevertheless pursued by the courts. Saturday evening, Joe Biden took the road to Camp David with First Lady Jill Biden, their children and grandchildren. One source said Biden would only listen to one advisor, or rather one advisor: Jill Biden, his wife. “The only person with ultimate influence over him is the First Lady,” the source said. “If she decides a change in leadership is necessary – there will be one.”

Another source told NBC that the gathering is not an “official reunion” of the family. “Any discussion about the campaign should be informal or conceptual,” the source said.

Last Friday, after the debate, she said: “As Joe said, he’s not a young man. After the debate, he said to me, ‘You know, Jill, I don’t know what happened. I didn’t feel so good.’ I said to him, ‘We’re not going to let 90 minutes define the four years that you were president.’ When Joe falls, he gets back up, and that’s what we’re doing today.”

While many in the Democratic Party have openly expressed their support for Joe Biden, several leaders have said they are “shocked” by the state of the 81-year-old Biden, unable to react and contradict former President Trump, even when the latter advanced blatant lies.

After the debate, Biden admitted he was “not as good a debater as I used to be,” but vowed to beat Trump in the November election.
