Former French international attacking midfielder Yves Herbet has died at the age of 78announced this Friday the Stade de Reims, one of the clubs whose colors he had worn. “It is with deep sadness that Stade de Reims learned today of the death of Yves Herbet, Stade player in 1970-71 and French international who played in the World Cup in 1966we read on Stade de Reims social media. During his career, Yves Herbet played 48 matches for Reims, scoring 5 goals. His passion for football and his sportsmanship made him a role model for future generations. Born in Villers-Cotterêts in the Aisne, Yves Herbet had done his debut in Sedanthen in the first division, from 1963. This small build (1m67) had subsequently played at Anderlecht, Red Star, Nancy and Avignon. After a final experience at Martigues (1978-1980), he began a career as a coach, which notably took him to Le Havre, Dijon and Angers, but also to Moroccoon the bench of FUS Rabat. Vice-champion of Botola in 2001, he was named best coach in Morocco two years later.

Yves Herbet had known the honors ofFrench teamwith 16 selections (and 1 goal) under the jersey bearing the rooster between 1965 and 1971. Selected for the 1966 World Cup in England, he played the event as a starter at just 20 years old. It is he who will cause the penalty for the Blues’ opening score against Uruguay (2-1 defeat).
