That evening, around 10:35 p.m., the 28-year-old man presented himself at the Périgueux police station with “a significant stab wound to the chest” explains the public prosecutor, Jacques-Edouard Andrault. “Before losing consciousness, he stated that he had been stabbed and gave information to police officers about the identity of the perpetrator. » The injured man was quickly transported to hospital, where he died during the night.

Thanks to the information provided by the victim, police officers went on Thursday evening to the home of a 47-year-old man living in Périgueux, “who may correspond to the designated person. » “They discovered the man in the courtyard of his building, in a state of drunkenness,” continues the public prosecutor. He was arrested at 10:50 p.m. and placed in police custody on charges of attempted murder, then murder. » At the time of his arrest, “the individual was carrying three knives, a screwdriver and three crack pipes. » The investigation was entrusted to the Dordogne interdepartmental judicial police service.

On Friday, the suspect’s partner was also taken into custody due to possible concealment of the murder weapon. “She ended up pointing out the place in the couple’s home where there was a knife likely to have been used to commit the acts. »

The reasons for the action remain undetermined

Questioned in police custody, “the man sometimes chose to exercise his right to silence” and “maintained that he did not remember certain events due to his alcoholism. » The reasons for taking action remain undetermined at this stage.

The public prosecutor opened a judicial investigation into charges of murder against the man and alteration of a crime scene against his partner. This should be summoned soon by the investigating judge.

The suspect has already been the subject of criminal convictions in the past. On January 30, the Périgueux criminal court sentenced him to twelve months in prison, including six months suspended for drug trafficking. The investigations are now continuing under the authority of the investigating judge.
