LAST HOUR: Serious accident on Hamel Boulevard in Quebec

Boulevard Hamel is closed in both directions at rue Lachance, not far from the Robert Bourassa highway, due to an accident involving a vehicle and a Hydro-Québec pole.

Firefighters had to use extrication pliers to evacuate at least one victim.

According to initial information from the Police Service, a person has suffered serious injuries and is in critical condition, indicated the Quebec City Police Service (SPVQ)

The SPVQ indicated that the driver of the vehicle, a 44-year-old man, was transported to a hospital center where he remains in critical condition. The front passenger of the vehicle, also a 44-year-old man, was also transported to the hospital center where there is no fear for his life. The rear passenger, a 39-year-old man, was evaluated on scene but had minor injuries that did not require ambulance transport.

Investigators as well as technicians from the Forensic Identification Unit are on site to reconstruct the facts and collect various investigative elements. For the moment, no theory has been ruled out, added the SPVQ.

Due to a power outage caused by the accident, around a hundred Hydro-Québec subscribers in the sector are without power, mainly businesses.
