Luxembourg: “Who lives around us?”: the strong awakening of Howald residents

Like a scene from a movie, or from a good Netflix series. Tuesday, around 6:30 a.m., Chloé* and her daughters feel that an unusual atmosphere is emanating from their residence, located in an uneventful neighborhood of Howald, in the commune of Hesperange. “Weird noises” emerge, then twenty minutes later, a neighbor alerts them of a strong police presence.

In this case, the entire sector is cordoned off with the mobilization of around thirty police officers, including some from special units. The objective is quickly identified, an apartment occupied by at least two “very discreet” people from the “Ceinture des Rosiers”, a residential area located very close to the Thionville road.

Too discreet? This is the question that residents ask themselves: “We wonder who lives around us. These people are often absent. It might be a couple, but no one really knows them. This raises questions in a place where there is still neighborhood life,” ask Chloé and her neighbors.

Another question torments them. What exactly is wrong with these people that the police show up first thing in the morning and break down their front door? Requested initially, the Luxembourg public prosecutor’s office indicates to The essential that the search was carried out “as part of a European investigation decision” emanating from the Sarreguemines court, in France.

“A case linked to drug trafficking established in Moselle-East”, the French judicial authorities subsequently revealed to us: “This is a relatively peripheral development concerning an investigation in progress”, specifies Olivier Glady, prosecutor of the Republic in Sarreguemines. And which did not allow any decisive progress in this investigation. Thus, no arrests or “significant discoveries” were made.

Three hours after the start of the operation, the police had all left the scene, leaving the residents with their questions. “But the situation was managed well,” concludes Chloé.
