The German national team has successfully made it to the round of 16. A large part of this success goes to coach Julian Nagelsmann.

36-year-old Julian Nagelsmann is the current coach of the German national team. According to “rtl.de”, he has already achieved many successes in his still young career. At just 28 years old, he became the youngest head coach in the Bundesliga, later he moved to FC Bayern Munich and thus became the most expensive coach in the world. At the current European Championship 2024, he has already reached the round of 16 with the German team. In the first game against Scotland, his players even managed to score five goals.

Nagelsmann began his career as an assistant at Augsburg II and later became a youth coach at 1860 Munich and TSG Hoffenheim. After three years at Hoffenheim, he moved to RB Leipzig, where he had a successful time. The move to FC Bayern was a dream that he fulfilled, as he told “rtl.de”: “I would not have terminated the contract for other clubs.”

Nagelsmann separates from his childhood sweetheart

But in March 2023, he was released by the record champions, less than two seasons after his move. Despite this setback in his career, Nagelsmann is considered a down-to-earth guy in private. He lives in Munich and feels a close connection to the city.

His private situation has also changed in recent years. After a 15-year relationship and the birth of two children, he separated from his childhood sweetheart Verena in June 2022. A little later, he found new love with journalist Lena Wurzenberger (31).

The national coach changes his face with cosmetic surgery

In addition to his impressive career in football and his role as coach of the German team for the Euro 2024, Nagelsmann also caused a stir with his decision to undergo cosmetic surgery. He decided to have his drooping eyelids corrected and thus change his appearance.

Julian Nagelsmann, however, was very open about this step: “I have droopy eyelids and like my eyes to be a bit bigger. Women are always allowed to dress up and so I thought that men can do it too. I tried it and hope it worked out to some extent.”

Nagelsmann is affected by his father’s early death

But life has not always been fair to Julian Nagelsmann, because in 2008 he had to end his career as a professional footballer straight away. The coach, who had already started playing at the age of five, suffered meniscus and cartilage damage. From then on, he was also at risk of developing arthritis.

A tough time for the then 19-year-old, but it only got worse. A few months later, at just 20 years old, the current national coach lost his father. In a 2018 Playboy interview, he talked about his stroke of fate: “It was a brutally tough time. The two events were maybe five months apart. Of course, I would have preferred not to have experienced that, but as sad as it was, it helped me grow as a person.” Friends and family helped him to come to terms with the loss.

Julian also continued to work on becoming a coach for his father. Because even though he could no longer play himself, he wanted to continue to be on the pitch. “My father had invested so much in me, all the training trips, all the support. I wanted that to bear fruit. Even if he was no longer there to see it.”
