Spain already in the round of 16, Albania dreams of a sensation

For Albania’s new European Championship hero Klaus Gjasula, reaching the round of 16 with his team at the finals in Germany would be “a sensation”. “And sensations have happened many times before. We’re giving it our all,” said the professional from Bundesliga relegated team Darmstadt 98 after Wednesday’s 2:2 draw in Hamburg against the favored Croatia. With a win against former world champions Spain, the Albanians can secure their ticket to the round of 16. “We all know that Spain is a tough opponent. But you never know in football,” said the 34-year-old Gjasula: “We have to keep both feet on the ground. It will be extremely difficult.”

Against Croatia, Gjasula first had to deal with an own goal before scoring the celebrated equalizer in the fifth minute of injury time. “It’s unbelievable. It was a rollercoaster of emotions for me. First an own goal, then a goal. I think I need to score own goals more often,” said Gjasula: “It’s unbelievable and I still can’t quite grasp it.” (akl/dpa/sid)
