Primetime success: Vox surprises with “We buy a zoo”

Many channels were unable to compete with the European Football Championship on Saturday. This was evident on RTL, for example, which had to accept 2.7 percent of the target audience for its “EM Studio” (without live images of a game) and subsequently failed to achieve more than 3.6 percent with an old “Take Me Out XXL” edition. ProSieben also performed at a similar level throughout the evening. They sent out another show repeat. “Who will steal Anke Engelke’s show?” achieved a 3.9 percent market share – a weak result, but at least one that showed RTL the tail lights.

In this respect, Vox in particular surprised viewers that evening with ratings that would have been considered good even without the European Championships as competition. The fact that “We’re Buying a Zoo” generated a 6.7 percent market share against the European Championships is really strong. The film was the most popular non-European Championship 8:15 p.m. program. An average of 0.36 million young people watched it, and the total measured reach was 910,000.

Vox thus finished ahead of the first channel, which repeated an old “Donna Leon” film and secured a very respectable 5.3 percent among young people. Overall, the crime thriller did very well: 4.28 million viewers accounted for 18.4 percent. ZDF had a similar experience the day before: “The Public Prosecutor” had scored points against the EM on the first channel.

Other channels that showed films can also be quite satisfied: On Sat.1, “Jim Knopf and the Wild 13” secured an average of 0.94 million viewers, which resulted in 4.9 percent of the classic target group. RTL Super landed an above-average three percent with “The Croods”, while ZDFneo achieved 3.2 percent among younger viewers. “Riddick – Chronicles of a Warrior” was shown there from 8:15 p.m. RTLzwei, however, only achieved 2.7 percent with the film “A Wedding to Love”, falling behind the niche channels.

With ratings between 0.7 and 2.1 percent, Kabel Eins was also unsuccessful in prime time. “Clarice Starling” was weak. “Manifast,” which is now shown at night, also did not bring in high ratings. 1.4 percent were recorded after 1 a.m., and just under an hour later the rating was 2.2 percent. A new episode of “Der Platzwart” on DMAX from 8:15 p.m. did passably with 2.4 percent.
