After two defeats in a row in Ligue 1, Angers won against Brest (2-0, 16th day) this Sunday. A success which allows the SCO to leave the red zone, to the detriment of Nantes, the new barrier.
Brest began its marathon in January, where it will play seven matches in twenty-four days, on the Angers pitch. Angevins who wanted to take valuable points in the race to maintain. Unable to string together two consecutive victories for several months, Brest wants to make a successful start to the game and take things in hand. But it is indeed Angers who achieves the perfect shot. In a school action, Arcus crosses back for Lepaul who takes over with first intention. His flat foot is perfectly done and Bizot can only see the damage (1-0, 6th).
Brest is surprised. Angers is confident and wins the midfield battle. Ajorque struggles on the attacking front but the former Strasbourg player struggles to put himself in a striking position. The distant strikes follow one another from the Brest side without succeeding in finding the target. Sima is very close to equalizing but the Breton's header does not find the target of Fofana (39th). Roy's men are even close to being punished by Lepaul. On a failed intervention by Chardonnet in the Breton area, the Angevin attacker quickly draws but his ball escapes the frame of Bizot (44th). At the break in a fairly closed match, Angers quite logically leads the score.
Niane delivers Raymond-Kopa
Brest returned with other intentions but the Angevin bloc responded well and did not concede many chances. Ajorque still obtains a situation from a set piece but the head of the former Strasbourg resident is not decisive (58th). Allevinah opts for a shot that hits Bizot's top corner (66th). Eric Roy brings new blood to the attacking front. His choices are immediately followed by effects with a Breton downbeat. Angers turns their back and displays great solidarity in front of Fofana's goal. Alexandre Dujeux's men also benefit from Breton clumsiness as on this header from Camara, yet alone from a corner (75th).
The match is still undecided and will finally change during added time. On an express counter, Raolisoa takes his left side before crossing with first intention for Niane. The former Messin doesn't put much power into his recovery but the ball ends up going in to the delight of Raymond-Kopa (2-0, 90+5th). Thus, Angers is starting 2025 in the most beautiful way. Alexandre Dujeux's men will have shown character and courage to achieve a precious success. Brest still can't do it away and sees the European places moving away. This Sunday evening, the Bretons are twelfth.
