the Patoche and Second Degré microbreweries are stocking up on new products for the winter

New developments in several microbreweries. To attract customers who mainly consume on site, Patoche, in the 18th district of , has renewed a large part of its eleven homemade recipes present in its brewpub, while Second Degreein -la-Vallée, is banking on new IPAs.

New beers at Patoche…

At Patoche, in Paris, with new beer coasters.

At Patoche, in the Parisian district of Montmartre, there is a new version of the Dipatoche (7.5%), a double IPA with Riwaka, Galaxy, Pacific Jade and Rakau hops. A fruity beer on the nose, and very dense on the palate, with tropical fruits, pineapple and apricot, before a drier finish. “It has an orchard side. We wanted something very fruity and round. The sugar breaks the bitterness at the end”specifies Jérémie Normand, brewer. Another recipe that has evolved, that of 3 Brothers (4%), a session IPA with Simcoe and Alora hops, more accessible than a traditional India Pale Ale, soft, fresh, with a fine bitterness and lots of chew. “It has a forest, undergrowth side”Also.

Located in an eminently touristy area, the microbrewery sells a large proportion of “thirsty” beers – currently, the Montmartroise is giving way to the Pellet (4.7%), a hoppy pale ale, “more hoppy, for a more explosive side than a classic blonde”. On the palate, the attack is quite sustained, before giving way to more lightness. The sparkle is fine. The feeling, compared to a traditional blonde, is that of a stronger beer, even if the alcohol level remains in the same range.

The Ascensional She comes back quite regularly. This white beer (4.9%) is infused with elderflower. The dress is golden; the beer, floral, has a nice freshness on the palate. This thirst-quenching beer was notably designed to meet the demands of a group of runners who pass by regularly.

…and at Second Degree

Second Degree, in Magny-le-Hongre

At Second Degré, in Magny-le-Hongre, end of December 2024.

In Magny-le-Hongre (Seine-et-Marne), in the agglomeration of Val d'Europe, we found, at the microbrewery Second Degreethe Bart Stout (10.5%)… which we discovered at Patoche, since it is a three-way collaboration, with 1989 Brewing (in Saint-Étienne-du-Rouvray, in Seine-Maritime). A vanilla imperial stout brownie. On the nose, coffee. In the mouth, a little sweet, then pastry, in the spirit of a soft chocolate. Vanilla arrives at the finish. The texture is reminiscent of a frozen sorbet.

Craft beer - Destination New Zealand - Second Degree, in Magny-le-Hongre

Destination New Zealand

Also worth discovering is a double dry hopping IPA, What the fuck (6.5%), fruity, very accessible, with pronounced citrus aromas and a nice length on the palate. The bitterness is more pronounced on the finish. A Neipa DDH, Destination New Zealand (6.8%), creamy and rich in citrus fruits, is also there. For the end of year celebrations, a beautiful Christmas IPA, Magic Treehad been proposed: spruce fir, grapefruit, lemon, orange, very bitter, with a lot of body.

The Second Degré team also brewed an incredible hibiscus beer for the Parisian bar The Cambridge Public House, to revisit the Cigarette after sex cocktail, a staple of the establishment. “We do a lot of collaborations with sports associations”adds Ludwig Meignat, co-founder of the brewery, who welcomes a better year in 2024 than in 2023.

The summer pop-up will be renewed, in April 2025, in Lagny-sur-Marne (Seine-et-Marne), hoping for better weather. Larger fermenters are due to arrive in January 2025 to increase brewing capacity from 860 to 880hl on site, the maximum allowed in the premises. 1200 hl are reached by relying on the infrastructure of the La Française brewery, in Noisy-le-Grand (Seine-Saint-Denis). Sales are 30% to 40% (summer) direct.

At Frog, a new thirst-quenching beer

Discovered by chance in Paris, the Belgian Blonde (6%), a Belgian blonde ale, is a new thirst quencher available in select Frog pubs. A very beautiful caramel color. The foam is not very persistent. On the attack, caramelized flavors, before a softer beer. You can smell the alcohol; The whole is quite dense for a thirst-quenching beer, but the beer allows you to take a slight side step, quite elegant, compared to a traditional blonde.

Alcohol abuse is dangerous for your health. Consume in moderation.
