Ten years after the Charlie Hebdo and Hyper Cacher attacks in January 2015, the terrorist threat remains present on French soil, as Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau indicated on RTL on Tuesday January 7. “France has rearmed considerably, but the threat is still there”he declared.
The recent tragic events which took place in Germany at the Magdeburg Christmas market and in New Orleans prompted the Minister of the Interior to ask the prefects and the police to strengthen security around large gatherings.
“We are in the business of prevention, but what happened in Germany and New Orleans shows that we must always maintain a very high level of caution,” warns Bruno Retailleau. “Last year, our services foiled 9 attacksthat’s more than since 2017,” he said.
Arrest of three YouTubers
The Minister of the Interior reaffirmed his desire to fight against political Islam. “We must not let anything go, when I hit Algerian influencers, it is part of the response,” explains Bruno Retailleau. There are three of them who have been arrested for comments considered extreme and advocating terrorism since last Friday.
