Like every year, the Bye Bye was eagerly awaited by Quebec viewers.
If we had been charmed by the previous editions, this one left us more cold. That being said, it still contained some excellent ideas which allowed the end-of-year review to make an impression.
The sketch of François Legault visiting the casino with Pierre Fitzgibbon and betting $700,000 on Northvolt was brilliant. Same thing for the Guillaume Lemay-Thivierge version of Marthe Laverdière’s show: “Se crash avec Marthe”.
This is the first time I've seen a vegetable that plants itself. – Marthe Laverdière
The ingenious way of approaching the closure of the Théâtre Gilles Latulippe, from the point of view of the neighbor, who is visited by the ghost of the comedian who tells him jokes until he flinches and cancels his complaint, also completely charmed us. Using Survivor Québec and its host Patrice Bélanger to parody the escapades of the Canadian Prime Minister and his government also proved profitable.
Although anecdotal, we also fell in love with this segment where two women ask themselves if they would prefer to come face to face with a bear or a man in the woods, a question that had made the rounds on social networks this year .
The songs of Bye Bye are often great earworms. Unfortunately, this year, both the opening rigodon and the hip-hop of the eclipse lacked bite. This was also the case for several other moments of this Bye Bye forgettable. A complete issue dedicated to Ricardo Trogi, really? Yes, his film 1995 was a great success at the box office, but you had to have the reference to appreciate this self-centered humor. Same thing for the Armes parody of television cuts. There were certainly question marks on the faces of those who had not watched the new Monday evening series on TVA.
The authors of Bye Bye also allowed themselves a parody of the Chefs, but, in this case, it was not necessary to have already seen the - culinary competition to appreciate the political jokes.
If last year, the return of Chambres to the city to talk about the housing crisis had been a memorable moment of the end of year review, in 2024, the resumption of Watatatow to address the toxic climate at the Bedford school was rather unsuccessful. On the other hand, bring back the guys from Guys contract to talk about masculinism, it was perfect (even if the texts could have been more scathing…).
The difficulties of Boeing recounted in a recording studio with Boom Desjardins were not a success either, just like this umpteenth sketch of Bye Bye on the Third link, titled BeetleGen.
On the other hand, as always, there was certainly a little something for everyone to get their teeth into with this great end-of-year entertainment, although more oriented towards Quebec culture, in its form (many parodies ), than in past years. We would have liked to laugh out loud like last year, but it was rather friendly little smiles that marked our viewing.
